Employees relocating to California could qualify for both the current
relocation policy geographic differential as well as a modified mortgage/rent
subsidy. Here is a brief summary of both provisions of the plan: Geographic
Differential: If the new California work location is rated at least
3% higher in cost than the employees previous location, then the employee
is paid that percentage of their base pay in a lump sum in the first
year, 2/3rds of that amount in monthly payments in the second year
and one third of the amount in monthly payments in the third year.
Modified Mortgage/rent Subsidy: The purchase price of your old home
is subtracted from the purchase price of your California home. This
amount is multiplied by the interest rate on the California mortgage
and divided by 12 to get the subsidy amount paid to you monthly in
year one and two of the program. That amount is reduced to 75% in
year 3, 50% in year 4 and 25% in year 5. Payments stop at the end
of 5 years. Renters receive a similar subsidy based on the difference
in rental payments between old and new location for a similar dwelling.
