HEMET, CA – The City of Hemet, Office of Economic Development is pleased to announce that Forest River Inc. has acquired the former Skyline facility in Hemet, CA. Forest River expects to begin producing recreational vehicle trailers in early 2015 at the new Hemet manufacturing plant. The new Hemet facility, located on 18 acres at Palm and Mayberry, will serve as Forest River’s 67th national assembly plant and is expected to employ 200-300 people at full production.
Forest River was founded in 1996 by Peter Liegl. As the world’s largest recreational vehicle and trailer manufacturer, Forest River operates multiple manufacturing facilities throughout the Midwest and west coast producing motorized Class A, B and Cs, travel trailers, fifth wheels, pop-up tent campers, park model trailers, destination trailers, cargo trailers, commercial vehicles, buses, pontoons, restroom trailers and mobile offices. At its founding, Liegl foresaw, “a RV company dedicated to helping people experience the joy of the outdoors by building better recreational vehicles”.
Ty Miller, General Manager with Forest River will be managing the new Hemet facility and said, “Forest River is looking forward to expanding our operations and returning manufacturing jobs to Hemet. The large Hemet facility will allow us to grow as we expand our business over the years. We look forward to working with the City and the community to bring new jobs to Hemet and to be active members of the community.”
Forest River is currently beginning tenant improvements at the Hemet plant and will gear-up for manufacturing and production operations over the coming months. Forest River will initially start-up with employees from their other nearby southern California location and 150 new hires.
Hemet Mayor Linda Krupa was excited to hear the news of Forest River’s acquisition of the Hemet facility. “The City is so pleased and grateful for Forest River’s investment in our community and their return of high quality manufacturing jobs to our valley.” Having Forest River locate in Hemet and create new, local jobs really feels like a Christmas present for our town and our citizens”, Krupa said. “The City welcomes Forest River as a great addition to our business community and we look forward to assisting them further in any way we can”, said Krupa.
Shawn O’Gorman of O’Gorman Pacific Realty of Riverside brokered the transaction for Forest River and worked closely with the City early on to ensure a smooth transaction. “We appreciate the cooperation and assistance we received from the City during our due diligence period and we were impressed with how they welcomed Forest River with open arms and a can do attitude”, said Shawn O’Gorman. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
