On May 13, 2021, the Board of the California Association for Local Economic Development (CALED) appointed Tara Schiff, ACE and economic development specialist for Mariposa County, to her second term as the Rural Liaison to the Board. The term will last from July 1, 2021 until June 30, 2023.

In this role, Ms. Schiff will inform the CALED Board of key issues and potential actions impacting the rural communities in our state. Ms. Schiff has a remarkable attitude and a deep love for rural issues. Her leadership and relationship building capabilities make her a great fit for CALED’s Rural Liaison to the Board.

CALED has long understood that the rural communities of California have specific economic development needs. While their concerns are often similar to those in urban areas (affordable housing, quality infrastructure, trained workforce, access to capital, excessive regulations) the solutions can be different in areas where distance, accessibility, and a lack of population concentration create unique challenges.

When asked about the position, Ms. Schiff said, “I am honored to serve another term as the Rural Liaison to the CALED Board. The work we are doing on behalf of California’s rural communities is essential for economic vitality and I greatly appreciate CALED’s advocacy and support.”

Tara Schiff is the economic development specialist for Mariposa County, and in that role has experienced and worked a total of fifteen economic disasters in 8 years. She has extensive knowledge around disaster remediation and helping rural communities recover from devastating disasters.
